WESTSIDE DRAINAGE REPAIRS - PICTURES & COMMENTS BY GREG SERGESKETTER
The Buffalo Bayou outfall showing the progress from March 4th to last night. I am impressed at the efficiency of the operation and how quickly they moved in what turned out to be a much larger project than what was originally contemplated.

The work area from across the Bayou. This shows the work status at the chronological beginning of this group of pictures. The old pipe discharged where the orange material is. The new pipe is being laid in the trench that goes from left to right with the discharge at the bottom right. (BTW, while I was taking this picture, my dog slipped in unnoticed by me to take a swim in the Bayou. Someone owes me for the cost of his bath. ;-)) |

Once again, the work area from across the Bayou as of last night. Almost all of the heavy work has now been completed with the soil back in place. The remaining pictures show the progress from the first picture to this one. |

Looking at the end of about 50' of new pipe. The manhole is near the trackhoe bucket. |

The old manhole in the foreground with the pile of dirt that had been excavated. |

The inlet pipe on the left, the new outlet pipe about 13' below it and the steel wall support behind the trackhoe to be used in building the new manhole. |

Close-up of the inlet and outlet pipes that the new manhole will connect. From top to bottom, the manhole is about 23' tall. |

The next three pictures show the placing of the steel wall support. Pretty amazing what can be done with a trackhoe. |

Picture 2. Tight quarters to get it in place. |

Picture 3. Support in place and tamping it down. |

From the end of the new outlet pipe looking about 100' to the light at the end of the tunnel, which is the new manhole. |

The end of the outlet showing the timber bent in place. |

Trimming the inlet pipe with over 10' of the new manhole completed. |

Wider view of trimming the inlet pipe. |

Bringing in the stabilized sand to support around the manhole and to make concrete. |

Some of the bricks used for the new manhole and the concrete stones to be used around the end of the outlet pipe. |

Manhole now up to the level of the inlet pipe entering on the left. |

Portland cement being brought in to be used with the stabilized sand and Bayou water to make the concrete. Notice the trackhoe bucket dumping water into the mixing trough. |

Laying the manhole brick. |

The top of the completed manhole to the left with most of the soil back in place. That big pile is gone. |

Some of the equipment used looking back at Marywood. |
