Logs Being Placed on the Barge
Buffalo Bayou - Tree Removal
The ravages of last year's drought, this year's freeze, Derecho and Hurricane Beryl have been so significant that for the first time that I am aware, Harris County Flood District has contracted to have fallen trees and other debris removed from Buffalo Bayou.
In the past, the downed trees have been taken care of by Harris County airboats cutting downed trees and letting them float downstream. The extent of the problem now is so great we have a contractor from North Carolina that started working downstream from Highway 6 behind Fleetwood on Friday. The plan is to continue moving downstream, so they should be coming behind Memorial Thicket presently.
My personal belief is this issue has been exacerbated by the Corps of Engineers increasing the cubic feet per minute discharge permitted from the two dams, which has resulted in prematurly eroding the banks.
