2026 Yards of the Month
June YOM
The Memorial Thicket Yard of the Month for June is the Stiles residence at 751 Windbreak Trail. Their tidy beds feature structural foundation evergreens along with a beautiful mix of different shades of green ranging from chartreuse ligustrum, variegated ginger, aztec grass and silvery, finely textured dusty miller. Near the front door steps and interspersed on the left are bright white and pink vinca. Their nicely shaped vitex just finished its flowering. The Stiles have successfully designed a low maintenance and beautiful front yard garden.

May YOM
The May Yard of the Month is 819 Herdsman. Jack and Sheila Cannata have a lovely yard, which combines both lush perennials and colorful annuals planted in bordered beds. The front beds are filled with a variety of daylilies, miniature roses, petunias, dwarf gardenia and on both sides are anchored by ligustrum bushes, with the right side currently producing a profusion of white, fragrant blossoms. Two large planting urns, seated along the stepping-stone path, are overflowing with petunias and sweet potato vines, whose attractive heart-shaped leaves and brighter green color will last throughout the summer growing season. The yard is also partially shaded by two healthy oaks, with one surrounded by dwarf pittosporum, with its glossy foliage and dense growth habits. This is a great home to see and one that keeps its neat appearance throughout the year.

April YOM
The April Yard of the Month is 842 Plainwood. Eric and Alicia Jansen have a well-maintained yard year around, and currently have several annuals and perennials neatly arranged in the bordered beds. As you move up the tiled sidewalk, which is bordered in rock, you have beds filled with lush greenery from the foxtail fern, variegated flax lily, and blooming society garlic. Adding the color to these same beds includes a mixture of sweet alyssum, purple and white salvia, and dianthus. The fig tree in the front of the yard provides a unique touch. The large colorful planters are great accent pieces, along with the wirework at the curb. The welcoming bench is a great place to sit and relax and enjoy the outdoors. This is a great home to see, so drive by and continue to watch the color appear.

March YOM
The Memorial Thicket Yard of the Month for March is the Thomas home at 803 Elk Run Circle. The home is anchored by boxwood and azaleas that are starting to bloom. The front bed features a forest pansy that is budding out as well as nandina, white azaleas, bright yellow green abelia, liriope and seasonal color. The front door is flanked with attractive pots filled with flowers.

January YOM
The Yard of the Month for January is the Betche residence, 15502 Old Stone Trail. This beautiful corner property allows for a variety of plantings, and the landscape design is evident with urns filled with similarly colored pink Pentas, Lantanas overflowing in the bowls aligning the walk and the pedestals by the front entry doors, Begonias in the urn atop the mailbox, and azaleas blooming in the beds. The large leafed yellow-flowered Ligularia are in full bloom on the sard also and add a dramatic touch to the beds as well.

The landscape includes some small trees, including a Shumard Oak, Camphor, and a brilliant, maroon-leafed Red Bud. On the side yard, a giant Southern Magnolia, and a majestic oak tree, pampered through floods, freezes, and droughts all add to the beauty of this consistently "picture-perfect", well-manicured property.
