Home Alarm Systems

"Each Living Unit shall be equipped, at Owner's sole expense, with

a central and local burglar, fire and emergency alarm system. Said

alarm system shall be connected to the master alarm system

serving Memorial Thicket, Section One."

Our contracted monitoring company is Smith Thompson Home Security. The costs for monitoring your home by Smith Thompson Home Security will be billed directly to MTHA. If you would like to use Smith Thompson as your monitoring company, you may contact them by calling customer service at 713.492.1064 or 888.888.1695, or you may access their website.  (NOTE: If you contract with a company other than Smith Thompson Home Security, MTHA will not be responsible for payment of the fees.)

Should you decide to use Smith Thompson for your home security, please inform them you live in Memorial Thicket. This will allow them to add you to the billing for MTHA. In addition, please notify David Myres at as we need to know which homes should be on our monthly billing statements.

Our contract with Smith Thompson calls for the following: Transmitter                  free, normally $89.00 Hardware                      15% discount Installation  15% discount Monitoring                   paid by MTHA Smartphone Access       $5.00/month, billed to homeowner (MTHA does not pay for these charges) Installation Charges      Paid by Homeowner/Resident (MTHA does not pay for these charges)

You may order service from the sales department. The sales department cannot know exactly what hardware you want or need in your home, although they can tell you the component prices. The inspection and recommendations will be done by a qualified technician onsite. These technicians have all equipment available upon arrival at your home and will complete installation that day.  The homeowner is responsible for the costs of the security system.

The system is an RF (radio frequency) wireless system. However, if you have a hardwired system now and you feel it is functioning effectively, Smith Thompson can use the hardwired system, if you wish, with their modifications. Smith Thompson will not be responsible for any failures of the hardwired system, but only its modifications thereof.

For security alarm permits, please contact the City of Houston at 713-581-7410.  Or, go to its burglar alarm website at

Under the procedures in place, when an emergency or burglar alarm goes off, Smith Thompson central dispatch receives the signal on their monitoring system and within a few seconds calls the Security Guard on duty, who responds to your alarm, usually within a matter of minutes.  However, since most of the alarms in Memorial Thicket℠ are false ones, Smith Thompson will then call the homeowner to verify the emergency or false alarm.

When signing up for security with Smith Thompson, the homeowner is allowed to provide to Smith Thompson three phone numbers to call, if an alarm is sent.  The MTHA board suggests that the first number provided by the homeowner is that of the Security Guard, then the homeowner and then a third number to be called, if one of the first two numbers is not answered.  (Smith Thompson is required to call the numbers in the order you provide.  If you have already provided numbers and would like to change them, please contact Smith Thompson.)  If none of the three calls are answered, Smith Thompson will call the police to dispatch an officer.

In the case of a fire alarm the Smith Thompson dispatcher immediately calls the Houston Fire Department before notifying the Security Guard.

These procedures can be found on page 15 of the MTHA directory.

Should you have issues or questions regarding your system or service after your system has been installed and is operational, please contact Dani Carriveau at 972-526-8519 or
