February 2026 Newsletter
Welcome to the first printing of what I am going to call THICKET TALK, which will include not only security related material, but also other information to share, including, but not limited to, area news that impacts Memorial Thicket and adherence to By-laws and Declaration of Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (DCCR).
SECURITY
Please add the Memorial Thicket℠ Security cellphone to your contacts: (713) 501-5406. If you need assistance or suspect suspicious activity, please call them immediately. Memorial Thicket℠ continues to maintain an A+ crime grade compared to a C+ for 77079. Information for December 2025 incidents and arrests for which HPD wrote police reports will be published once it becomes available.
GUARDHOUSE DAMAGED
On Friday February 13th at approximately 6:40pm while the guard on duty was conducting routine rounds, an unidentified male suspect walking westbound on Memorial Drive entered Memorial Thicket and approached the front of the guardhouse. The suspect forcibly broke two panes of glass on the front guardhouse window and reached inside the broken glass, removing a wallet and vehicle keys belonging to the guard on duty. The suspect then entered the guard's vehicle and fled the scene, traveling eastbound on Memorial Drive and turning left onto Westlake Park Blvd. A report of the incident and resulting damage has been filed with the Houston Police Department.
MEMORIAL DRIVE RESURFACING
As you are fully aware, the City of Houston is resurfacing Memorial Drive from Hwy 6 to Eldridge. Please continue to pay close attention to the safety cones and barricades that are in place. It is also important to be extremely cautious as you approach the exit. Please come to a complete stop prior to the Stop Sign, noting that east-bound traffic on Memorial Drive is driving very close to our entry and exit drives, and avoid pulling out too far to avoid any collisions. The current schedule has completion of the project during the week of March 16.
YARD OF THE MONTH DELAYED
With the recent freezing temperatures affecting many yards and flower beds, the Yard of the Month Committee has postponed the Yard of the Month selection for February. We know how much effort everyone puts into maintaining beautiful outdoor spaces, and we want to give our community time to bounce back. We look forward to resuming the selection in March. Thank you for your patience and keep up the great work---Spring recovery is just around the corner!.
DCCR - Mailbox Policy
Article VIII, Section 12 of the DCCR includes language regarding the Memorial Thicket℠ mailbox policy. It states that all mailboxes should be identical in size, color, and design, and which size and color being predetermined by the Architectural Control Committee, and the decision of the Architectural Control Committee in such matter shall be final. The policy further states that each mailbox shall be constructed of brick, stone, masonry, or cast aluminum, but in no event shall be made of wood. Any replacement of a mailbox requires the prior approval of the Architectural Control Committee to ensure compliance with this policy. Shown below are the two mailbox options approved by the Architectural Control Committee.
