SECURITY
Please add the Memorial Thicket℠ Security cellphone to your contacts: (713) 501-5406. If you need assistance or suspect suspicious activity, please call them immediately. Memorial Thicket℠ continues to maintain an A+ crime grade compared to a C+ for 77079. The information below is the November 2025 incidents and arrests for which HPD wrote police reports. Of the 137 offenses, 1 was recorded within Memorial Thicket℠.

SNICKET GATE
To continue promoting a safe environment, the Snicket Gate code will be changed effective January 25th, 2026. Please ignore the previously announced date. You should contact the guardhouse at the above number to obtain the new code. As a courtesy, please make sure the gate locks as you come in and out, and close it gently. Also, never share the code with anyone or post it on media sites.
SAFETY REMINDERS AS YOU WALK
When it comes to keeping pedestrians safe, everyone has a responsibility - pedestrians, drivers, and all those who use public streets within Memorial Thicket. Here are a few reminders for walking:
1. Since Memorial Thicket does not have sidewalks, walk facing traffic and as far from traffic as possible.
2. Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways or backing onto the street.
3. Drivers should yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and stop well back from crosswalks and intersections to give other vehicles an opportunity to see the pedestrian also.
4. Drivers and pedestrians should exercise extreme caution at nightime since pedestrians can be harder to see and may appear suddenly. Walkers should also wear or attach reflective clothing or carry lighting to be seen more easily. Residents can also enhance safety by ensuring that their lamppost is in working order.
DRIVING PROTOCOL WITHIN MEMORIAL THICKET
Our most common complaint received by residents is vehicular speeding within Memorial Thicket. This applies to both residents and the numerous delivery services that enter our streets. While the streets within Memorial Thicket are public roads and have a speed limit of 30 MPH, the MTHA BOD placed signage at the entrance to caution drivers to slow down and drive 20 MPH. As stated above regarding no sidewalks, the streets are busy with bicycles, scooters, walkers, cars, and strollers. PLEASE SLOW DOWN AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT STOP SIGNS! I will also remind everyone that there is NO PASSING for any reason within the neighborhood.
SECURITY MONITORING
As mentioned at the Annual Meeting, each home must be equipped with a working alarm system connected to the master alarm system serving Memorial Thicket. One option is for this master alarm system and its monitoring be done by Smith Thompson. The charge for the Smith Thompson monitoring of your alarm system is included in your Homeowners Annual Assessment. You can contact Smith Thompson at 972-526-8500 to enroll. When enrolling, please ensure that the account is set up to first contact the Memorial Thicket Security Officer at 713-501-5406 for any burglar and emergency alarms. For fire alarms, Smith Thompson calls HFD before calling the Security Officer. Please also remember that it is unlawful to operate or allow the operation of an alarm system unless you have obtained (and maintain annual renewal) of a valid Burglar and Fire Alarm Permit issued by the City of Houston. A resident will be charged a fee of $360 (currently) for each false alarm response by the fire department in excess of established maximums, which are based upon the number of alarm activating devices controlled by the household. An alarm system with no more than 10 alarm activating devices is allowed 5 false alarms before the fine is imposed.
ANIMAL ORDINANCES
While we all love our animals, we must be reminded of the several ordinances that have been established by the City of Houston. Here are a few popular topics that should be addressed in residential areas:
1. It is unlawful for any person to own, keep, possess, or have control over four or more adult dogs, four or more adult cats, or any combination thereof exceeding three adult dogs and three adult cats.
2. No person shall own, possess, or have control over any dog or cat that is four months of age or older unless the dog or cat has been implanted with a microchip and has a current rabies vaccination.
3. It is unlawful for any person owning or having in its possession any dog to allow the dog to be at large without the owner or person in charge having direct physical control over the dog.
4. Memorial Thicket does not have any areas within its boundaries that are designated as off-leash recreational areas. The City Director is the only person authorized to designate such area that allows unleashed dogs to be at large.
5. Relating to dogs, aggressive dogs (defined in part as interfering with the freedom of movement of persons in a public right-of-way, regardless of whether the dog was on the property of its owner) or public nuisance dogs (defined in part as interfering with the rights of enjoyment of life and property by persons other than the owner by acts including, but not limited to, frequent, long, or continued barking or howling, repeated defecation on property other than that of the owner, or damaging property other than that of the owner), may be subject to an investigation by the City Director upon receipt of a sworn, written complaint by any person. Please ensure pet safety and promote a safe, enjoyable neighborhood for all.
THANKS FOR BEING THE EYES AND EARS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD. SAFETY IS A GROUP EFFORT.
