DING DONG DITCH IS NOT COOL!
Over the last two months, residents have reported young children approaching the front door of their residence, ringing the doorbell, and then running away on foot or on bike. Each of these incidents have been recorded on the residence's RING camera and turned over to the VP of Safety and to CIS, LLC. Please note that once the suspects are identified, the guards or other MT representatives will visit with the parents and ensure that the behavior is stopped. Parents, please emphasize to your children that what may appear as harmless fun can quickly escalate into a disruptive and potentially dangerous situation. Parents can also play a significant role in educating their children about responsible and respectful behavior. Encouraging open conversations about the potential consequences of pranks, like Ding-Dong-Ditch can help young individuals make informed choices. Ding-Dong-Ditching is not always inherently illegal, but it can become problematic when it crosses into trespassing, disturbing the peace, harassment, or vandalism.
ENJOYING TRAVEL WITHOUT BEING JUICE JACKED!
Summertime is a very busy travel season, and many find themselves sitting around on their mobile device waiting for the next flight, bus, or train. Public charging kiosks in airports and train stations are very convenient and allow travelers to get some "juice" or extra battery power for their mobile device. However, please be aware that these charging stations can threaten the security of your device. The same USB cord you use to connect your device to the kiosk is also used to transfer and synchronize files. If a hacker tampers with the kiosk, they can steal or "jack" passwords, contacts, and credit card numbers while you are charging your device. These kiosks could also allow malware to be transferred onto your mobile device. If you must charge your device while traveling, plug your device into a wall outlet, or turn your device off before plugging it into the charging kiosk.
UPDATE ON PREVIOUSLY REPORTED CHILD SOLICITATION ALLEGATION OUT OF TARRANT COUNTY, TX
As previously reported in the April Security Newsletter, a resident was arrested in Memorial Thicket on a felony charge of inappropriate solicitation of a child out of Tarrant County, TX. This arrest was part of a larger '"sting" operation involving several law enforcement agencies in Texas. While there was never potential danger to any households in Memorial Thicket, we did want to inform all residents that the suspect's home has been sold, and the suspect is no longer a resident in our neighborhood.
