SECURITY

Please add the Memorial Thicket℠ Security cellphone number to your contacts: (713) 501-5406. If you need assistance or suspect suspicious activity, please call them immediately.  Memorial Thicket℠ continues to maintain an A+ crime grade compared to a C+ for the total 77079 zip code area. The information contained below is the January 2025 monthly breakdown of offenses for which HPD wrote police reports for zip code 77079. This report includes both incidents and arrests. Of the 164 offenses in January, none were recorded within Memorial Thicket.

SECURITY

I did want to reiterate that we all need to do a better job regarding school bus safety as students are boarding the bus at the main entrance.  You may have noticed that the safety cones are no longer used.  This was due to residents driving around the cones and exiting through the entrance.  This is NOT the intent.  The guard is usually present and will route you correctly.  If the school bus lights are not flashing, please proceed slowly and carefully between the guard and the bus and drive through the EXIT.  If the school bus lights are flashing, students are being loaded on the bus, and you will need to STOP AND WAIT until the lights stop flashing.  You can then proceed and drive through the EXIT.

SOLICITATION IS A NO-NO

Last week as I drove the neighborhood, I noticed a young man park his car on Plainwood and start walking down Old Stone Trail door-to-door.  I assumed he was soliciting, so I went to the guardhouse and asked the guard for assistance.  The guard immediately found the young man, explained our solicitation policy, and asked the young man to leave.  Please be on the lookout and do the same.  Memorial Thicket℠ Homeowners Association, Inc. urges all residents who do not want solicitors and other uninvited persons on their property, at their doors, or littering to complete a NO SOLICITATION FORM: click here No Solicitation Form). By having each resident's NO SOLICITORS AUTHORIZATION FORM on file at the guardhouse, our security guards will be better able to discourage these persons.  This is also an effective tool in proactively stopping those who try this type of opportunity to further criminal action such as burglary, assault, and robbery.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS AND BATTERY CHECKS

Daylight Savings Time begins this weekend, and clocks will "spring forward" one hour at 2am on Sunday, March 9th.  We will not "fall back" to Standard Time again until Nov. 2nd.  Let Daylight Savings Time serve as a reminder that when you change your clocks, you also change the batteries in the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.  This practice, or if you want to start it as a tradition, is often referred to as the "Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries" campaign, serving as a reminder to check and replace batteries during time changes.  A few minutes could save your life.

HORSES OUT - FLOCK CAMERAS IN

Houston Police Department has announced that Houston leads the nation in license plate reading cameras and the technology is showing promise in helping investigators close cases.  As staffing shortages continue, the Flock cameras have proven to be a critical asset in solving multiple local crimes through its license plate technology and subsequent notification to law enforcement of any past links to crimes.  Chasing by horse and chasing by car is a thing of the past!  The Memorial Thicket℠ HOA will continue to evaluate FLOCK cameras for 2026!
