SCHOOL SOON TO BE OUT

The end of this school year means more kids are out and about, especially in our neighborhood.  Parents and caregivers play an essential role in keeping our kids safe while enjoying summer activities.  Here are a couple of reminders to help enjoy a safe summer:  1) When driving, pay attention and scan the entire area around you, make a complete stop at all intersections, and obey the speed limit in Memorial Thicket; 2) Look for kids playing near the street or between cars and slow down; remember that children are often unpredictable and unaware of the danger around them; 3) Make sure someone is watching your children at all times; never let your child walk anywhere alone; 4) Never allow unsupervised children to play near or swim in pools, retention ponds, bayous, or other bodies of water; and 5) Report any suspicious strangers or vehicles in the neighborhood to the guard on duty.  Katy ISD ends May 22 and starts back August 13; Houston ISD ends June 4 and starts back August 12; and Cy-Fair ends May 29 and starts back August 13.

SNAAAAAKES

As the weather begins to warm up, snakes in the Buffalo Bayou area are emerging from brumation and seeking food and warmth.  In the heat of the summer, they are likely to be more active during the cooler parts of the day and will remain active into the fall, especially if the weather remains mild.  Please be extremely careful while walking the path and do not allow your children or pets to wander off into the taller grass.
