Memorial Thicket℠ Ransacking of Vehicles within Memorial Thicket
Over the last four days, we have received three reports of cars being ransacked within the neighborhood, most specifically the 800 block of Spear Point Cove and the 800 block of Plainwood. In all three instances, the doors were opened and the glove compartment and interior ransacked. As previously shown in the past several Security newsletters, theft from motor vehicles is consistently on the rise in the 77079 zip code. We have reached out to CIS, LLC to increase night patrol for the next weeks to potentially stop this trespassing.
Here are some tips from the Houston Police Department:
1. Even if your vehicle is locked and alarmed, if you leave valuables (or the hint of valuables) in plain sight, a thief may target your car, even knowing it is locked and alarmed. Without a clear prize in sight, a locked/alarmed car will likely be bypassed for an easier “target of opportunity”
2. If possible, put your vehicle in a garage and lock the door and close all windows tightly If you are not able to park in an enclosed space
3. Criminals target of choice include guns, purses, laptops, tablets, hand tools, jewelry, coins or anything they might feel is valuable...again make sure your cars stay locked and windows fully closed.
As always, if you see something, say something!
