SECURITY
Please add the Memorial Thicket℠ Security cellphone to your contacts: (713) 501-5406. If you need assistance or suspect suspicious activity, please call them immediately. Memorial Thicket℠ continues to maintain an A+ crime grade compared to a C+ for 77079. The information below is the December 2025 breakdown of offenses, both incidents and arrests, for which HPD wrote police reports for 77079. Of the 167 recorded, none were within Memorial Thicket.

HOLY SMOKES!
As a serious precaution and to protect our neighborhood and surrounding areas, please remember that the burning of trash, rubbish, or other materials is strictly prohibited within the City of Houston, which includes Memorial Thicket℠. Open burning is illegal unless specifically approved by the Fire Marshal and a permit is issued. If you notice illegal burning within Memorial Thicket℠, please contact the guard on duty. You may also contact the HFD's Fire Prevention Division that enforces the City of Houston Fire Code at 832/394-6900 during business hours or, during non-business hours, the non-emergency dispatch number is 713/884-3131. The Fire Marshal is authorized to require that open burning be immediately discontinued (permitted or otherwise) if it is determined that the emissions are offensive to occupants of surrounding property or if the open burning is determined to constitute a hazardous situation.
TRASH AND DEBRIS REMOVAL
In order to maintain a "pleasing to the eye" environment and to distract animals from making a mess, Article VIII, Section IV of the Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (DCCRs) for Memorial Thicket℠ states: No trash, rubbish, garbage, manure, or debris of any kind shall be kept or allowed to remain on any lot. The owner of each lot shall remove such prohibited matter from his lot at regular intervals at his expense, and prior to such removal all such prohibited matter shall be placed in sanitary refuse containers with tight fitting lids in an area adequately screened by planting or fencing so as not to be seen from neighboring lots". Reasonable amounts of construction materials and equipment may be stored upon a lot for reasonable periods of time during the construction of improvements thereon. As a reminder that you have heard or read many times, please DO NOT place garbage cans or bundled trash debris for pick-up until the night before, meaning Monday evening for Tuesday pick-up and Thursday evening for Friday pick-up.
SNAKING AROUND
As temperatures begin to rise in Houston, snakes become more active, moving out of hibernation to hunt for food and water. Residents should stay alert, keep yards clear of brush and debris, wear sturdy shoes especially when walking the bayou trails, and maintain a safe distance, as snakes usually only bite when threatened or cornered. Many snakes in Houston are non-venomous (like the rat snake), but they can still bite if provoked. For wild animals or nuisance snakes in homes or garages, residents should call a pest control company rather than BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions (BARC), as they do not typically respond to wildlife outside of direct threats. Please respect the animals and give them plenty of space and move family and pets into a safe and secure area. Do not attempt to touch, feed, or capture the animal/snake yourself.
RECREATION TIME IS NEAR
As we gear up for Spring Break and summertime, please remember that the City of Houston has an ordinance stating that a vehicle cannot legally park on a public street (all streets in Memorial Thicket℠ are public streets) for more than 24 hours. This ordinance helps to reduce neighborhood blight and identify stolen vehicles. If you identify an abandoned vehicle or a vehicle parked on the street in the same spot and position for more than 24 hours, please contact the guard on duty. If the guard is unaware of a particular situation involving the vehicle, you should proceed to call 311 and report the vehicle. If the vehicle is cited and not moved within 48 hours, it is eligible to be towed as an abandoned vehicle. In addition, referencing the Memorial Thicket℠ DCCRs, Article VIII, Section 7 reads, "No boat, trailer, recreation vehicle, camping unit, bus, truck, or self-propelled or towable equipment or machinery of any sort shall be permitted to park on any lot except in an enclosed structure, except that (i) during the construction of improvements on a lot, necessary construction vehicles may be parked thereon for and during the time of necessity therefor, and (ii) this restriction shall not apply to automobiles in good repair and attractive condition, provided that any such automobiles are parked on an improved driveway which has been approved by the Architectural Control Committee".
