Water Cutoff Scheduled
Memorial Thicket Water Outage
The Short Story I have been informed by the City less than an hour ago that the water cutoff, which was previously postponed, is now scheduled for Tomorrow, Thursday, February 25, for approximately four hours beginning around 9:00 a.m. Most of Memorial Thicket will be impacted. Click here for the map that shows if your home will be affected. Addresses highlighted in green will be impacted. Water lines are in blue.
The Longer Story
The necessity for cutting off our water is tied to the Buffalo Bayou Storm Sewer Project that was the subject of a newsletter last month. The contractor needs to build a manhole that will drop over 25 feet down to create the junction to tie in the new storm sewer line that empties into Buffalo Bayou with the current line draining Fleetwood. The old line that collapsed south of the new manhole will be abandoned. One of the two City water lines for Memorial Thicket runs from Fleetwood behind Marywood and then in the backyards of the two western homes of Elk Run Circle before heading east along Walkwood. That line is very close to where the new manhole is to be located. As such, the contractor wants to construct a bypass for the water line in order to construct the manhole. To do so, the water must be turned off during the bypass construction. My current understanding is once the manhole is completed, the bypass would be pulled and the straight line reinstituted. If that is the case, then I would expect another shutoff.
