Memorial Thicket continues to maintain an A+ crime grade compared to a C+ for the total 77079 zip code area. The information contained below is the May 2026 monthly breakdown of offenses for which HPD wrote police reports for zip code 77079. This report includes both incidents and arrests. Of the 150 offenses, none were recorded within Memorial Thicket.
SECURITY CONTRACT UPDATE
The Board received five proposals for armed security services beginning January 1. Of the five, three were selected for further review based on meeting the general requirements for the scope of work. These include First Line Security, Smith Protective
Services, and Tiger Eye Security Services, a DBA of SSOA for further evaluation. The Board’s considerations included, but
were not limited to, cost (including certainty of costs, fee escalations, add-on fees, etc.), professionalism, licensing, insurance, track record, training of guards in First Response/EMS, type of patrol vehicles and patrol intervals, among others. Formal in-person interviews have been scheduled for early September, and a final decision will be made and communicated in October.
IMPROVING SELF SUFFICIENCY IN THE ENERGY CORRIDOR
The Energy Corridor District is spear-heading an innovative homelessness partnership that is helping individuals experiencing homelessness move toward long-term stability. The Partnership addresses homelessness through coordinated outreach, intensive case management and rapid housing placement. The Energy Corridor District Board of Directors allocated $60,000 to launch the program, which identifies people living unsheltered through law enforcement outreach. The non-profit partner, West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM) conducts comprehensive assessments and provides temporary hotel accommodation for participants who enter the program. WHAM then connects participants with employment assistance, behavioral health resources, transportation, food assistance, housing navigation and other services designed to help them achieve permanent self-sufficiency. Through strategic investments and strong partnerships, the goal is to prevent and ultimately end homelessness in our community.
FOODIES FUN
Foodies have just a few more days to enjoy the specials offered up during Houston Restaurant Weeks. This special culinary celebration will wrap up on Labor Day, September 7.
Restaurants close to us that are participating in the largest annual fundraiser for the Houston Food Bank including Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen, District 7, and Cafe Benedicte. The 3-course dinner at Cafe Benedicte is available for $55/person. Diners choose from two salads, a pepper-crusted tenderloin or seared scallops as an appetizer, followed by a choice of four entrees. Dessert options include a banana Foster bread pudding, chocolate cheesecake, crepe brûlée or acai berry sorbet. Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen is serving a 3-course dinner menu for $39/person. Choose from four appetizer selections, followed by six entree selections — everything from Chilean sea bass to North of the Border or South of the Border combinations. The dessert selections do not disappoint — tres leches, chocolate tres leches, flan or sopapillas. District 7 is offering two prix fixe menus. Dinner is available seven nights a week for $55/plate, featuring your choice of osso buco, lamb chops, maple glazed salmon and red fish. A special brunch menu is available Friday through Sunday for $25/person. The brunch menu features two courses with entree choices of an open face rueben, chicken & waffles, French toast or an all-American breakfast. ENJOY!
GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
A new opportunity to connect, serve and give back is taking shape in the Energy Corridor District. A new Energy Corridor Rotary Club is forming, bringing together like-minded adults who want to make a difference in their community while building meaningful relationships along the way. The club will meet over lunch on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at Sylvia’s, with a monthly third-Friday happy hour at Pho Ben. The goal is to create a welcoming group where members can exchange ideas, build connections and put those ideas into action through community service. If you have been looking for a way to become more involved in the Energy Corridor — or simply want to meet people who share your commitment to giving back — this is a chance to be part of something from the beginning.
FESTIVE YARD OF THE MONTH APPROACHING
Don’t forget to spruce up your yard for Fall, Yard of the Month candidates for October (and December) are judged on the exterior appearance of their property as viewed from the street, with overall appearance, tastefulness, creativity, decorating in the “spirit of the festive holiday (ornamental lighting and decorations),” and a visually appealing façade all considered. Judging will take place on the evening of the first Sunday of the month of October (October 4th) and December (December 6th). It is never too early to start planning for this fun event.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS
Memorial Thicket Homeowner’s Association will again host National Night Out on October 6th starting at 6pm. The event will be held on the front (east) lot, with pizza and sno-cones available for everyone. A special thank you to SSOA and Energy Realty for helping sponsor our event. Law enforcement, emergency services, mounted patrol, and local political leaders are currently scheduled to attend. Please mark your calendars.
