Memorial Thicket continues to maintain an A+ crime grade compared to a C+ for the total 77079 zip code area. The information contained below is the April 2026 monthly breakdown of offenses for which HPD wrote police reports for zip code 77079. This report includes both incidents and arrests. Of the 117 offenses, none were recorded within Memorial Thicket.
NEW NAME – SAME FACES
Last month, MTHA was saddened to hear of the passing of Rudy Trabanino, previous owner of CIS, LLC. Security Solutions of America (SSA), which acquired CIS, LLC around 2018, informed MTHA after Rudy’s passing that they would no longer be able to service the security contract but wanted to ensure there was no interruption in security coverage for our community. MTHA has now contracted the security services with SSA under the same previous terms and conditions AND THE SAME GUARDS through the end of this year. SSA has also submitted a new proposal for services beginning January 1, 2027, which is under consideration.
MORE ROAD IMPROVEMENTS COMING
The Energy Corridor District, after completing improvements on Memorial, are continuing their strategy relating to near-term road repairs and long-term mobility issues. The City of Houston and METRO are discussing plans to jointly fund needed improvements on Eldridge between Interstate 10 and Westheimer. The work, which will include replacing the most deteriorated concrete panels and sealing panels that show signs of water infiltration, could begin in early 2027. Traffic in the area will obviously be impacted, especially during the morning and evening rush-hour traffic during this construction.
A TRULY GREAT PLACE TO LIVE
The Energy Corridor District recently presented some great demographic and workforce characteristics, as well as current development patterns that shape the District, that were identified from a study it commissioned in 2015 to identify the Energy Corridor’s competitive edge. While the Energy Corridor is not a major population center, it continues to experience steady growth. There are about 13,600 residents today and this population is expected to exceed 14,000 by 2030. By comparison, there are about 73,000 people during the Corridor’s daytime hours, with employees working for major companies including Baker Hughes, BP America, CITGO, ConocoPhillips, Enbridge, Fluor, Shell, Houston Methodist West Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital West. It is also interesting that more than 22,000 commuters travel to the Energy Corridor from Katy alone, and 3.67 million people live within a 30-minute drive of the Energy Corridor District. This workforce includes a significant concentration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics professionals. This is great news and a real incentive for Memorial Thicket to keep its neighborhood safe and updated to keep home values high.
FESTIVE YARD OF THE MONTH APPROACHING
Late last year, the Memorial Thicket Homeowner’s Association (MTHA) Yard of the Month Program established a “new” recognition for homeowners for festive decorations in the months of October and December. Yard of the Month candidates for October and December are judged on the exterior appearance of their property as viewed from the street, with overall appearance, tastefulness, creativity, decorating in the “spirit of the festive holiday (ornamental lighting and decorations),” and a visually appealing façade all considered. Judging will take place on the evening of the first Sunday of the month of October (October 4th) and December (December 6th). It is never too early to start planning for this fun event.
